Camp Philosophy

The David Rubio Volleyball Camp is specifically geared to create a positive learning environment for everyone who attends. Head coach David Rubio will personally direct each camp. His hands-on approach has made him one of the most successful camp coaches in the country. There will be 4 sessions of camp, with each session emphasizing either a different skill or age group, as described in camp descriptions.

2001 Volleyball® Magazine National Coach of the Year

Entering his 16th season as the head coach at Arizona, David Rubio has turned the Wildcat program into one that not only contends in the traditionally dominant Pacific-10, but on a national level as well. As the Wildcats’ top man, Rubio has guided his team to 12 NCAA Tournament berths, a school-record 22 NCAA Tournament victories, seven Sweet 16s, four Elite Eights and to the Final Four in 2001.


Arizona Associate Head Coach, Steve Walker

Former Arizona volleyball assistant coach Steve Walker begins his first season back at Arizona, as he will serve as associate head coach for the Wildcats.

Walker served as an assistant coach with the Wildcats for three seasons from 2003-05, helping to lead the program to thee NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the Elite Eight in 2005. He left Arizona after the 2005 season to become the womens volleyball head coach at UC Davis, where he has coached the past two seasons. Walker joins Rubio and assistant coach Allison Napier on the coaching

During his tenure at UC Davis, Walker was selected to coach the Northern California Volleyball Association Youth Division team at the Global Challenge in Maribor, Slovenia during July of 2006. Last year, he was invited back to coach the NCVA Youth team at the USA Volleyball High Performance Championship in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

A collegiate volleyball player at Long Beach State, Walker finished his career as the schools all-time leader in assists per game. The starting setter for two seasons, he was named AVCA All-America and All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation in 1995, after leading the NCAA in assists and assists per game.

Walker was selected to play for the U.S. at the World University Games in 1995 and was the team captain for Arizonas back-to-back NIRSA club national championship teams in 1999 and 2000. He was named the MVP at the 2000 championship event. Walker is also a four-time bronze medalist at the U.S. Volleyball Open Adult Championships.

A native of Newport Beach, Calif., Walker graduated from Long Beach State with a degree in kinesiology in 1996 and received his M.A. in teaching and teacher education from Arizona in 2000.


Arizona Assistant Coach Allison Napier
2000 All PAC-10 Selection

Former Wildcat standout Allison Napier is entering her second season as an assistant coach at Arizona, where she assists in recruiting and the day-to-day team operations both on and off the court.
Napier ended her career at Arizona with 1,008 kills in 110 matches, averaging 2.86 kills and 1.55 digs per game over four seasons as an outside hitter. She helped lead Arizona to a Sweet 16 appearance in 1999 as a junior, and the school's first Elite Eight finish her senior season in 2000 as a First Team All-Pac-10 honoree. She led the Wildcats in 2000 with 440 kills and a 4.04 kills per game average, the fifth best single season mark in school history.
After her playing days at Arizona, Napier played professionally in Puerto Rico during the 2001 season for Indias Mayaguez, and was selected as an All-Star.


Other Camp Staff

The staff will include the current Arizona staff, as well as high-level club and high school coaches from around the country. Also including, current and former UofA players as well as other collegiate coaches.

From Others?
Head Coach David Rubio personally directs all sessions.
All camp coaches are trained to use the same techniques.
